At Acorn Village, we believe that everyone — regardless of ability — deserves the chance to live a full, meaningful life. Inspired by the Steiner philosophy and shaped by the love and determination of our founding families, our approach is rooted in humanity, creativity, and community.

We see the whole person — not just a diagnosis. Our care is person-centred, relationship-led, and purpose-driven, supporting each individual’s emotional, social, spiritual and physical wellbeing. From supported living and residential care to creative therapies and social opportunities, every element of Acorn is built around the needs, strengths and dreams of the people who live here.

We don’t believe in limitations — we believe in possibilities. Whether it's learning a new skill, making a friend, or simply having a voice that's heard, we help people grow, connect, and belong. Because life at Acorn isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about living — fully, freely and joy.

The Heart of Acorn Village: Our People

At Acorn Village, care goes far beyond a job description — it’s a shared commitment, rooted in kindness, respect and genuine connection. Many of our dedicated staff have been part of the Acorn family for years, walking alongside residents and tenants through every stage of their journey.

They know each person not just by name, but by personality — their hopes, habits, and the little things that make them smile. This deep understanding builds trust, safety and confidence.

There is nothing our team loves more than seeing someone achieve a goal, no matter how big or small. Whether it’s learning to cook a meal, make a new friend, or simply express themselves more freely, those everyday moments of growth bring real joy to our staff — and are celebrated as the milestones they truly are.

It’s this consistency, care and heartfelt pride that make Acorn Village not just a place of support, but a place of belonging.

At Acorn Village, we support adults with a wide range of learning disabilities, including conditions such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Cornelia de Lange syndrome. Many also live with associated health conditions like epilepsy, asthma, visual or hearing impairments, diabetes, and mental health needs including anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia.

Our service users often have complex and highly individual needs. Many require full personal care, support with communication — including for those who are non-verbal or use personalised signs — and assistance with safety, relationships, and managing everyday risks. Some also need help with eating and drinking safely, medication, and navigating social situations, due to their vulnerability to exploitation or misunderstanding.

We recognise that adults with learning disabilities may have emotional and sensory needs they find difficult to express. When frustration or distress arises, we respond with patience, empathy and a deep understanding of the person behind the behaviour.

At the heart of our support is the belief that every individual deserves to be heard, respected, and enabled to live life on their own terms — with the right care behind them, every step of the way.

At Acorn Village, family and friends are not just visitors — they are an essential part of the community. We recognise the lifelong bonds and deep connections our residents and tenants have with their loved ones, and we actively nurture those relationships.

Families are welcomed, involved, and valued. Whether it’s attending reviews, celebrating birthdays, joining in with events, or simply popping in for a cuppa, their presence brings comfort, continuity and joy.

We also know how important friendships are — between residents, with staff, and beyond. Acorn is a place where people form lasting connections, and we support those relationships to flourish in a safe, inclusive environment.

Together, families, friends and staff form a circle of care that surrounds each person with love, trust and belonging — because at Acorn, no one walks their journey alone.

For many, Acorn Village is not just a place to live — it is truly home for life. People grow older here, their needs change, and through every stage, they continue to be supported with warmth, dignity and deep respect.

Some of our residents and tenants spend decades as part of the Acorn community. When ill health arises or life nears its final stages, we provide the highest level of personalised, compassionate care — ensuring each individual feels safe, valued, and never alone.

Loss is deeply felt across our close-knit community. When someone passes away, it has a profound impact — not just on their family, but on the care staff and friends who have shared years of laughter, memories and everyday moments. But even in the hardest times, Acorn remains what it has always been: a place of belonging, love, and unwavering support.
