A wonderful display has been put together by our Acorn Artists created for Manningtree Library, Essex Library Service! The display is up until the end of May, the project took around two months to complete. Everyone has been excited to create the display for the local children to enjoy.

2026 is the year of Community at Acorn Village Day Services.

At the start of the year the Day Services team visited the library to discuss collaborating on a piece of work together. Together we decided to put together a project to be displayed in the children’s section of the library, the theme of the work would be Nursery Rhymes, this display would compliment the libraries baby and toddler rhymetime.

Residents and tenants at Acorn Village are very much part of the local community, we wanted this represented in the piece of work we created, we were also keen to include local buildings and site seeing spots in and around Manningtree and Mistley in the display.

Acorn Village staff have enjoyed talking about the project with the those who are taking part in the display, singing and reciting old nursery rhythms has brought back childhood memories for many of our attendees. Through reminiscing and talking of past times some of our attendees, who generally may not get involved in special projects, became invested in the display.

Attendees, volunteers and staff worked on individual elements of the collage. Some chose their favourite rhyme and drew a character from it, they then chose fabric, embroidered hair for the character and put their creations together. One attendee said “I liked trying something new and choosing the fabric”.

Other attendees worked on buildings, foliage or animals. The drawing was traced and the fabric shapes were cut out or coloured in using fabric pens. Another resident said “It is like putting pieces of a puzzle together”.

We hope you love it!
